It is remarkable to find a Roebuck of this period in such good condition with original paint pretty much intact.
Matilda has been cleaned and sealed and original paint retouched, and her stand cleaned and given new polish. We made replica harness which exactly fits the "shadows" left by her original harness, and positioning of tacks is exactly where they were originally. As Matilda has darkened so much with age and is to be a friend for a little girl, we have given her brighter saddle cloth than she would have had, this is temporary and will be replaced with original colours in due course.
She is invaluable to us for her original paint, and all details of paint and harness remnants (hiding under what is visible in the photos) have been recorded in detail for future reference.
We have one virtually identical horse (needing full restoration) available that is due for completion in July 2013.
