Special Extra Carved antique rocking horse

Circa 1880-1890

An absolute treasure of a rocking horse. The Rocking Horse Studio is very proud to have this outstanding horse in its private collection.

Magnus has magnificent presence, gorgeous extra carving on legs and body - a model so rare it is not currently represented in any known book about Rocking Horses and their history. According to the most respected experts in England, the highly desirable Ayres 'TOTR' (Top of the Range or Special D Quality) is Ayres's copy of the special extra carved Lines.

Magnus was found twenty years ago under a house after tenants left and 'there wasn't room on the skip'. Fortunately the gentleman who found him thought he was quite nice and liked him as he was - he has been undisturbed (ie not damaged more) ever since. His broken jaw has been repaired to how it would havebeen, with a tongue carved to one side, an extremely rare feature although not desirable in a real saddle horse. The fine carving on the legs and fetlocks, extra carving on the thighs and tailbone are very beautiful and can now be appreciated.

This restoration was a true labour of love, with no effort spared. For a full story of his restoration, visit Facebook to see an album with photos taken throughout restoration. Our deepest gratitude and appreciation goes to Jackie Darnborough for making Magnus's beautiful tack. Time was short for this restoration, which simply would not have been done in time for a special occasion without her help.
