Trinket

image

Trinket is absolutely minute at 28", and a perfect miniature rendition of an earlier style Ayres (with modified pillar design).

There has been much speculation as to the purpose of such a tiny rocking horse, too fine to use. It really is miniature rather than small. Perhaps she was a salesman's sample (back in the days when all wares had to be carried in a horse-drawn cart and weight had to be kept down), a shop display or perhaps an apprentice's master work - done at a smaller scale in the same way that apprentice cabinetmakers built scaled-down masterworks to economise on materials.

Trinket belongs to a client and will be restored soon.
